Dallas Motorcycle Safety
Assisting Motorcycle Accident Victims in Texas
If you are a motorcyclist and you enjoy the experiences you have while riding your motorcycle, cruiser bike or sports bike, we recommend that you read the following safety tips, which when followed, will allow you to continue enjoying your favorite pastime while protecting both yourself and your passengers:
- While riding your motorcycle, both you and your passenger should wear a helmet. Wearing a helmet has been proven to reduce motorcyclists’ chances of incurring a head injury or brain injury in the event of an accident.
- When you are riding your motorcycle, you should also wear other safety gear to protect your body, eyes, hands and feet. Safety equipment includes gloves, boots and shatterproof goggles or glasses. Wearing jeans or denim and leather is a wise option as the material is very durable and can offer you external protection in the event of an accident.
- Before you take your bike out on the road, do an inspection to make sure that everything is intact. Test your brakes and check for any leaking of fuel or liquids.
- Each year, make sure that your motorcycle is inspected by a professional. Make sure that you take your bike in for regular tune ups or to the mechanic if you notice any problems while riding.
- When you are about to brake, do not just press one brake, press both. Using both brakes allows you to stop smoothly and will help you avoid brake failure.
- If you are riding on a slippery surface or when it is raining outside, make sure that you reduce your speed and are more cautious of traffic around you.
- When you are about to take your bike out for a ride, you should never consume drugs and/or alcohol. Never ride your vehicle while you are intoxicated and your judgment is impaired. Doing so is extremely reckless and will only increase your chance of being involved in a serious accident.
